This cache has been archived.

jackpotandy: The cache has repeatedly gone missing so I’m afraid it’s time to go.
I don’t visit the city like I used to do so maintenance has become difficult.

Geocache Description:

This cache is to be found in the ‘legal’ area of the city, a short walk from the place where the skeleton of King Richard the Third was found in September 2012. The body was confirmed to be that of the much maligned Last of the Plantagenets on 4th February 2013.

Richard III was killed in the Battle of Bosworth Field on 22 August 1485 during the War of the Roses. His body was brought to the house of the Greyfriars in Leicester where it was buried in a crude grave.

The dig was carried out by University of Leicester archaeologists, who uncovered a human skeleton on the first day of work. It soon became apparent that the body was that of a man in his thirties who had suffered multiple wounds from a variety of weapons and had been hurriedly buried in a grave that was too small. The skeleton had a number of unusual physical features, most notably a severe curvature of the spine that caused the right shoulder to be higher than the left.

Richard was given a final resting place in Leicester Cathedral on 26th March 2015.
