Wille Sopockie - Willa Claaszena Traditional Cache

Willa wybudowana według projektu Waltera Schultza w 1903 r. dla gdańskiego kupca i konsula Stanów Zjednoczonych na Prusy Zachodnie Ernsta Augusta Claaszena. Ernst August Claaszen był właścicielem firmy eksportującej cukier i konsulem Ameryki na całe Prusy Wschodnie. w roku 1924 w związku z wielkim kryzysem jego firma zbankrutowała, a Classzen popełnił samobójstwo. Rok później jego rodzina sprzedała dom przedsiębiorcy Oskarowi Meltzerowi którego spadkobiercy i rodzina mieszkała do końca drugiej wojny światowej. W 1934 r. wnętrza willi przebudowano na potrzeby trzech rodzin oraz dobudowano garaże do południowej elewacji (1937 r.). Po wojnie przez krótki okres czasu w willi mieszkał Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski jako naczelnik Delegatury Rządu do Spraw Wybrzeża. Po 1948 r. willę przedzielono jako rezydencję dygnitarzy rządowych, a następnie w latach 1984 - 2000 zmieniono na siedzibę Poradni Pedagogiczno-Psychologicznej. Od 2000 r. w willi ma swoją siedzibę Muzeum Sopotu.

The Villa was built according to a design by Walter Schultz in 1903 for Gdansk merchant and consul of the United States in West Prussia Ernst August Claaszen. Ernst August Claaszen owned company exporting sugar and American consul for the whole of East Prussia. in 1924 due to the Great Depression, his company went bankrupt, and Classzen committed suicide. A year later, his family sold the house to the entrepreneur Oscar Meltzer of which heirs and the family lived until the end of World War II. In 1934, the interior of the villa was rebuilt for the three families and the garage was built to the south façade (1937). After the war for a short time there lived, in a villa, Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski as the head of the Delegation of the Government for the Coast. After 1948, the villa was divided as the residence of government officials, and then, from 1984 to 2000 changed the seat of Pedagogical and Psychological Counselling. Since 2000, there is located in the villa the Museum of Sopot City.
