Scouting for a Rail Yard Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ThorScouts: Cache was there, but since the trees have been cut down there isn't a great hiding spot anymore. I don't think people want to look through the bushes and they just assumed this was in the nearby guardrail.

Geocache Description:

A small/medium sized plastic container covered in camo tape.  Should be a quick P&G along the edge of the trees.  Pull-off area makes this a safe grab away from RR and Kanawha Tpk traffic.  BYOP

This pull-off from Kanawha Tpk provides access for anyone trying to get into the railyard across from Kanawha Tpk.  Of course, there are only a handful of people who actually would need to use it for this.  Instead, people use this for 2 other main reasons.

One is for smokers who have to leave the Kanawha Valley Technical Park on their breaks because they can't smoke on the site.  So they get in their cars and drive here and have a few cigarettes in their cars during their breaks.  If smokers are there and they have their windows down and you are forced to smell cigarette smoke during your hunt, you have my apologies in advance.

The other reason people use this parking area is to try to jump line in the Jefferson Road traffic to South Ridge.  They will avoid the long "through" lane, get in the turn lane, then swing around in this pull-off to get back onto Jefferson Road again at the second light.  (If you are a local and travel this road alot, you'll understand what I mean.)  I don't know if this actually saves people any time or not though especially when there is also traffic on Kanawha Tpk.

So anyway, if you are finding this cache and you see people smoking or turning around in this spot, you'll know why they are there.  And be discrete around the muggles.  Don't want the parked muggles to investigate and turn the cache into an ashtray.

And it goes without saying, watch little ones in this area so they don't wander around.  While the pull-off itself is a nice safe spot, don't let them wander up the slope toward the RR tracks or go past the guard rail toward the cars.  It gets busy here between 4PM and 6PM when people are leaving work.

CONGRATULATIONS to 999_DB and PILOTJ on the FTF!
