Geocache Description:

This magnetic cache is part of a group of caches placed in the Johnstown area to celebrate the Bicentennial of Johnstown, Ohio in 2013. Dr. Oliver Bigelow donated land and planned the village in 1813. Visit all of these caches to learn more of this town's history. Happy 200th Birthday Johnstown.

Elijah Barton began the construction of the Town Hall/Opera House in 1883 and it was completed in 1885. The stage in this building has hosted plays, rallies, medicine shows, vaudeville acts as well as graduations. The upstairs is still used for plays and musical events, and the Historical Society has a museum and offices on the first floor. It is on the town square that was a gift from Dr. Bigelow and named "Bigelow Park" in his honor. Take a walk around the park yard and visit the gazebo, cannons, Victorian garden, tree dedications and memorials. Plenty of parking. Use your "geosenses". You don't need to disturb vegetation.
