Tammisaaressa on kaksi arkkitehti Alvar Aallon suunnittelemaa rakennusta:

Tammisaaren Säästöpankin talo valmistui Asematien ja Ystadinkadun kulmaan vuonna 1969. Taloa laajennettiin uudella siivellä vuonna 1986. Kansalaisten nimiehdotuksia talolle olivat mm Valkoinen Talo, Mammonan temppeli, Aarrekätkö ja Dollarikortteli. Virallisesti talo on Ekecenter – Tammikeskus. Arkkitehti Aalto suunnitteli talon eteen lisäksi torin suihkulähteineen, mutta tämä ”piazza” jäi keskeneräiseksi.

Arkkitehti Alvar Aalto oli kirjailija Göran Schildtin ysävä. Schildt asui paljon ulkomailla, mm Kreikassa. Alvar Aalto lupasi suunnitella ystävälleen uuden kodin ”niin hyvän, että muutat takaisin Suomeen”. Talo sai nimen Villa Skeppet ja se valmistui vuonna 1971. Taloa kuvataan mm ”Villa Skeppetin tiiliosat liittyvät Välimeren vanhaan rakennusperinteeseen. Skeppetin visuaalista kokonaisuutta hallitsevat kuitenkin puurakenteet, jotka liittävät rakennuksen arkkitehtuurin kansanomaiseen rakennusperintöömme.” Rakennus on yksityiskäytössä, joten katsele sitä vain kadulta.

In Tammisaari there are two houses designed by Architect Alvar Aalto

The house built for Tammisaaren Säästöpankki was completed in year 1969 in the corner of the streets Asematie and Ystadinkatu. The house got extra wing in the year 1986. The public was asked to give a name for building. Among proposals were among others The White House, The Temple of Mammon, The Cache and The Dollar Block. Officially the house is Ekecenter – Tammikeskus (eng Oakcenter). Architect Aalto designed also a piazza with a fountain in the front of the house but the implementation remained incomplete.

Architect Alvar Aalto was a friend of author Göran Schildt. Schildt was staying a lot abroad, for example in Greece. Alvar Aalto promised to design a new home for his friend “so good that he can move back to Finland. The house got a name Villa Skeppet (Villa Ship) and it was competed in 1971. The house is described “the brick sections are connected to old Mediterranean building tradition. The visual impression is however dominated by the wooden structures witch relate the building to our rural building tradition. The house is in private use so you can look at it only from the street.
