Geocache Description:

The entrance to Harton, about 13 miles northeast of York, from York-Malton road is through the 'Griffon Gates'. There is still evidence of these gates but the cottage once incorporated is now derelict. The piers, topped by the sculptured 'griffons', were demolished by the heavy traffic in the Second World War. The occupants of the cottage used to have to cross the road to their bedroom.

Harton forms part of the Chomley Estates and has been owned by the Strickland family since 1865. Some land has been sold for new houses and bungalows have been built on the foundations of old cottages and on other sites. The District Council built four houses. The village has changed from a farming community to a mainly residential one.

The cache is a small clip box container. Please bring your own pen/pencil to sign the log. There are a few small toys for the kids to swap.
