If you are at G.Z. then the whole area enclosed by the housing estate behind you was once a Greyhound racing stadium.
The massive "Tote" board showing the odds offered on the different dogs was at the East end of the oval with covered stands along the South side.
At the West end a 40-50 foot mound carried concrete terraces down to trackside.
The track was bulit,I think, in the1930s and remained the same until the late 50s when investment saw the creation of an enclosed supper club on the North side where punters could eat, drink and watch the racing in comfort, along with a 10 lane Brunswick bowling alley,The Dogs Bowl.
A Night club was constructed at the East end of the covered stand. All was well and the venue seemed very popular but the greyhound racing side was in trouble meeting the requirements of the Greyhound Racing Board, and after a number of warnings, the licence to race was revoked and the whole enterprise collapsed in the late 1960s
