Riversdale Rummage Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RobboAndMum: Hard to believe that this original container and log has stood the test of time, wedged in the river bank behind a stone and under a good few feet of water during some severe rainfall for almost 4 years. But, visiting here today we were saddened to see a lot of forestry work has taken place making the place not what it once was (not sure where the game will roam now) but more significantly we found some Giant Hogweed has taken root a few cms from GZ. Riversdale has lots of it but this batch being so close to GZ we obviously didn't want anyone to be in danger.

Geocache Description:

This cache can be found within the Easterly section of Riversdale Forest, which is home to its own game reserve. The cache is located on the banks of Ballycassidy River.

Depending on the time of year and the recent rainfall, you might need to get your feet damp to find this cache, so come prepared with waterproof boots and gaiters if it's been wet!

From the suggested parking location, it is a 1/2 mile walk which takes you past the entrance to the enclosed part of the game reserve. The reserve is home to fowl which do venture outside of this enclosure and can be seen throughout the whole forest, so if you bring a dog please make sure you have a lead in case it is required.

The cache itself is concealed behind some cover, so please make sure you replace this to both protect and conceal the cache.

Once you have found the cache, you can continue your walk around to complete the loop which is a pleasant stroll of just over a mile in total with moderate gradients in places. Although the majority of the walk is suitable for bikes and pushchairs, do note that the final few meters to GZ are less accessible.

(Although there is also parking on the main A32, the suggested parking location is safer for getting in and out, especially with kids and dogs.)

Pay close attention when you find the cache, as this is the fifth and final in a series of caches containing clues to the location of an additional mystery cache (Bottom of the Bottle - GC4KNE2). If you complete all of the caches in the series, you will be able to figure out where it is hidden, so note down the information you can gather from this cache, and keep it safe for use later. free hit counter
