Anticamente questa zona era una distesa di alberi da frutta e di olivi, nel corso degli anni è stata bonificata dai vari agricoltori che se la sono succeduta.
Il lago prima veniva utilizzato appunto per l'irrigazione delle piante ma anche per far bere gli animali, infatti prima vi era un casa colonica che adesso non c'è più perchè con il tempo è crollata.
Adesso questo luogo è una risorsa idrica molto importante per gli animali selvatici che vi abitano vicino, tra cui cinghiali, fagiani, caprioli, lepri...., ma anche molte specie di uccelli.
