Kastiel Fricovce / Mansion in Fricovce

SK: Renesancny kastiel z rokov 1623-1630, obdlznikoveho podorysu s prilahlym parkom, typicky predstavitel vychodoslovenskej renesancie. Je situovany na vychodnom okraji obce Fricovce.

Kastiel dal postavit Valent Berthoty v rokoch 1623 -1630 podla planov stavitela Michala Sorgera z Presova, mimoriadne zaujimave figuralne a rastlinne ornamentalne sgrafita vytvoril Martin Waxmann. Syn Valenta - Jan predal zaciatkom 18. storocia kastiel Janovi Therenyovi. Kastiel vsak od neho kupil spat jeho syn Mikulas Berthoty. Jeho dcera  Viktoria sa vydala za barona Dominika Ghillaniho a pod vedenim ich syna kastiel okolo roku 1840 prestavali. Do roku 1945 ho obyvala rodina Ghillanyiovcov. Kastiel bol opraveny v rokoch 1953-1955 a 1977-1978. Kastiel je zrekonstruovany a funguje v nom hotel, ako aj restauracia.

EN: Renaissance mansion from the years 1623-1630. It has a rectangular floor plan and a nearby park. It represents the Renaissance style typical for eastern Slovakia. Mansion is situated on the east side of the village Fricovce.

Mansion was built by Valent Berthoty during the years 1623 -1630 according to plan builder Michael Sorger from Prešov. The extremely interesting figural and vegetal ornamental sgraffito was created by Martin Waxman. Son of Valent - Jan (John) sold mansion in the beginning of the 18th century to John Thereny. However, the mansion was bought back from him by Jan´s son - Mikulas (Nicholas) Berthoty. His daughter Victoria married Baron Dominic Ghillani and mansion was rebuilt by their son around year 1840. Until the year 1945 it was inhabited by the family of Ghillanyies. The mansion went under reconstruction in the years 1953-1955 and 1977-1978. Today, Mansion is renovated and it serves as a hotel and a restaurant.

Interier / Interior

SK: Na prizemi sa zachovali renesancne klenby, krizove alebo valene s lunetami. Na prvom poschodi su klenby korytkove a ceske placky. V reprezentacnej sale bola povodne umiestnena hudobna empora s pomalovanym parapetom. Malba predstavovala tunajsiu tanecnu salu s tancujucimi a ciganskou hudbou, hrajucou prave na hudobnej empore. Pri uprave v 19. storoči sa do interieru dostali drevene oblozenia stien a reprezentacne dvere, ktore ciastocne odstranili po roku 1950.

EN: On the ground floor there are preserved Renaissance vaults - groin vaults or vaults with lunettes. On the first floor there are arches and "ceske placky" (a type of Baroque dome vaults). In the representative saloon was originally placed musical matroneum with painted sills. The painting represented the local dance hall with dancers and gypsy music, played from the matroneum. During the renovation in the 19th century the interior got wood wallfacing and representative doors which were partially removed after 1950.

Exterier / Exterior

SK: Kastiel je obdlznikoveho podorysu s dvoma hranolovymi vezami na naroziach. Kedysi mal svoje vlastne opevnenie. V strede jednoduchej dispozicie je velka vstupna sien, v ktorej je zalomene schodisko veduce na poschodie. Na prieceli su okenne otvory a vstup, upravene v 19. storoci. Z tohto obdobia pochadza i terasa pristupna volnym kamennym schodiskom. Z povodneho riesenia priecelia sa zachovala stitkova atika s renesančnym sgrafitom, klucove strielne a sgrafitove kvadrovanie narozia. Pri poslednej uprave odkryli erb s napisom a letopoctom a slnecne hodiny. Na bocnych fasadach sa ciastocne zachovali povodne renesancne okna, renesancny portal na prvom poschodi, ktory kedysi viedol na pavlac. Z nej pochadzaju aj kamenne konzoly. Na objekte je bohata sgrafitova ornamentika, s dorazom na jednotlive postavy umiestnene v arkaturach atiky. Nachadzame tu 150 mytologickych a historickych postav predstavujucich antickych bohov (Mars, Venusa), hrdinov (Aeneas, Brutus), panovnikov (Flavius, Titus, Trajanus), bozske cnosti (Viera, Nadej, Laska), ale aj uhorskych kralov ci ine osobnosti (kral Ladislav, Matej Hunad, sultan Amurat, Jan Zizka) atd. Postavy su znazornene v dobovych alebo symbolickych ruchach. Finalne sgrafita doplna rastlinna ornamentika vytvorena zo stylizovanych Talii, ruzi, klincekov, listov a hlavickami putti. Hlavne priecelie povodne cele pokryvalo sgrafito, kym ho v 19. storoci neprekryli novymi omietkami. Vedla erbu boli rozvilinové ornamenty. Z vytvarneho sgrafitoveho riesenia sa ciastocne zachovali horizontalne ornamentalne pasy s geometrickymi motivmi.

EN: Mansion has a rectangular floor plan with two rectangular prism shaped towers on the corners. In the past it had its own fortification. In the middle of simple front facade is a large entrance hall, where is situated a cranked staircase leading to the first floor. On the facade there are window openings and entry that was rebuilt in the 19th century. In this period was also built terrace that can be accessed by stone staircase. From the original design of the facade was preserved a gable attic, key embrasures and corners with sgraffiti. During the last modifications was uncovered a coat of arms with inscription, dates and sundial. At the side facades are partially preserved the original Renaissance windows and Renaissance portal on the first floor which once led to the balcony. The stone corbels also come from it. Mansion has a rich sgraffito ornamentation, with an emphasis on individual characters placed in Arkatura attic. We can see 150 mythological and historical figures representing ancient gods (Mars, Venus), heroes (Aeneas, Brutus), emperors (Flavius ​​Titus, Trajanus ), divine virtues (Faith, Hope, Love), but also the Ugrian kings or other personalities (king Ladislav, Matthias Hunyadi, Sultan Amur, Jan Zizka) etc. Figures are shown in period or symbolic robes. The final sgraffito is completed by vegetable ornaments styled from Talias, roses, carnations, leaves and heads of putti. The entire main facade was originally covered by sgraffito, until it was in the 19th century redone with a new plastering. Next to the coat of arms were many leafwork ornaments. From the artistic sgraffiti are partially preserved horizontal ornamental straps with geometric motives.
