Geocache Description:

The green medium sized cache can be found just outside one of the entrances of the Sunburst Building. The Sunburst Building was for patients who were prescribe oxygen as treatment. They were wheeled onto to caged porches. Feel free to walk around the building to see some of the porches. We spoke to a security officer who said the public can walk and job the grounds, just don't enter the building or walk the corridors.

The Central Islip State Hospital was a psychiatric hospital in Central Islip, New York, USA from 1889 until 1996. The center was one of the four major hospital "farms" in central Long Island to house the sick from New York City; the others were Kings Park, Pilgrim State Hospital, and Edgewood State Hospital. in 1889, 49 male and 40 female patients were admitted in 1889 for "O&O" (Occupation and Oxygen) and "R&R" (Rest and Relaxation) at a working farm. Dedicated to my Geocache partner, my husband...Prisoner Part Pete.
