Geocache Description:

When this cemetery was in use, this area was known as 'Eden'. The death records for the interred note Eden as their final resting place. Cache is a black cylindrical container, not on the ground- it's up. There are snakes in Eden!

Available during daylight hours only. Enter by way of the small chainlink gate in the center.

This is a tucked away long-ago cemetery, known as the Hadley Point Cemetery. Though it looks small now, in fact there are the remains of at least 85 people here since 1818. This cache serves a few purposes - namely to show people the happiness and beauty that is life, and also death! In the 19th century, when this cemetery saw the majority of its use, death was not the hushed or hidden thing it is today. Folks made beauty in the hand carved stones; many stones have elegies or eulogies carved into them; and trees were planted as a symbol of everlasting life. One tree in particular in this cemetery stands out; it has two wooden supporting stands put in place to support the heavy weight of its low-lying limbs, as it was planted well over a century ago! Cemetery trees are always special. In fact, you'll find this cache in a tree. The cache is a black cylindrical container hanging on a pine branch. Who doesn't love a surprise? I believe ancient cemeteries such as this one, disappearing into the woods, are delightful surprises and a chance to see what passes in time.

Hadley Point Beach is right down the road, too - an awesome spot with warm water, away from the bustle of more crowded beaches.
