The Bluff! Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The real treasure of this cache is to see the rock formation.
The cache is located somewhere along the bank of the bluff.
The Bluff, is a conglomerate formation. The only of its kind on the north end of Vancouver island. The exact geological date of this formation is unknown. Some say it is a Devonian aged formation, but the presence of certain ammonite fossils state that it could be a late Cretaceous aged formation. The formation rose out of the ocean after the last ice age. When glaciers melted and the immense pressure, keeping it under the ocean floor was lifted, pushing it up to the surface.
Local Native American legends state that Malcolm Island rose out of the ocean. There is a petroglyph near Lizard Point, on the opposite side of Malcolm Island, which is said to be a warning to people to stay off the island for the fear it may once again return to the bottom of the ocean. This may very well have been an actual eye witness account of the birth of our island, handed down in story, generation after generation.
There is only room for a logbook in this cache so BYOP.
The FTF Prize is a Sointula Collectible. Feel free to drop something in the cache if you like.
(Note: I recommend you attempt this cache at low tide.)
