Geocache Description:

Ruckle Provincial Park is the gem of Salt Spring Island, and one of the most beautiful parks in the Gulf Islands. Descendents of Irish immigrant Henry Ruckle, who have farmed the property for more than a century, donated the land for the park in 1972. The family continues to operate the Active Farm area of the park and to maintain several residences under a Life Tenancy agreement with BC Parks, established at the time of the donation.

Cachers with dogs should note that due to ongoing interactions between dogs and farm livestock, Ruckle Park restrict dogs to the lower parts of the park (near the day-use picnic areas and the campground) and the shoreline trail from the main parking area to Yeo point, and requires dogs in the park to be on leash at all times.

There are more than 15 km of trails in Ruckle Park, running along the shore, near the active farming area, and, to this cache, through the forest.

The treasure-hiding troll of the cache title prefers the shady forest cover to the bright sunshine and the quiet of the woods to the bustle of the picnic and camping areas in the busy summer season. He (or perhaps the humans who frequent the area) appears to be an artistic sort, given to sculpture with found materials, mostly rocks and tree parts, some naturally occuring, some left in situ, others carefully arranged.

The length of your hike will depend on where you start (and what other caches you attempt on the same trip). The closest parking is about 650 m from the cache (in a straight line, which the trail is not).

The cache is located within two steps of the trail. No bushwhacking is required.

The cache container is a 23x15x7 cm clear plastic box with a snap on lid. Please take care when re-closing and check that all four corners are snapped down.
