There have always been mysterious legends about this house that are probably not true but are certainly known in the lore of the town. This House is said to glow at night, and supposedly a witch used to live here.
The Legend: I spent the second half of my childhood very near this particular local legend. Almost any time were were going to town or returning to our home in Pocola, we would often drive right by this house. I remember one of these trips when a friend of mine was staying over for the night and we were heading to get some pizza. He said, "Wow there's the haughted house." I was instantly intrigued and asked what he meant. I heard him spin a tale of murder suicide and potriguist all controled by a witch that had lived there years ago (This tall tale being an extention of the story in my previous cache Haunted History #1 - Susanna Morris) I do remember, even after learning that the glow of the house was easily explained, that I couldn't help but look at the ghostly glow of the house with some sense of awe. Even after the house was repainted with a much less reflective latex based paint, (Which for some years did allow it to fade into the backdrop of the skyline) that it was not long before an industrial plant went in directly across the street, and again brought it to life due to incredibly bright lights only a football field away. The Real Story as taken from Ben Boulden's Book: Hidden History of Fort Smith, Arkansas: The source of light from a glowinghouse in Arkoma probably is explainable and its origin thoroughly quotidian. The author interviewed a woman who grew up in the house from the early 1960's to the early 1970's. The domicile in question sits high on a ridgeline between where Pheonix Avenue and Zero Street intersect with Stateline Road. Because of its unique position, whiteness and setting, the house is perfectly situated to reflect the city lights of Fort Smith while surrounded in rural darkness. At least that's the general consensus opinion. The woman, who wishes to remain unamed, said at one time it was brightly lit at night with white mercury lamps, too. Her father put them in. She said the house now is unoccupied and no longer is painted white enough to be as terrifically reflective. No on ever painted it with phosphorescent pain, as some have assumed it was. (Note: the house had been painted in a lead based white paint before, which was much more reflective than our modern letex based paints, as was noticed when the house was repainted in the late 90's by the current owner) A Quick Update, I have recently heard rumor that the current owner of the property is talking about tearing down the old house. I cannot confirm this, but I'll be the first to support a land owner to do what they will with their own property, but it will be a shame to see it go. I'd suggest seeing this soon just in case. How to Solve: First things first. There is no container at the posted Cords, due to the fact that this is private property, and the owner has informed the Arkoma Police that he will shoot tresspassers. Wait, wait, wait! Don't run for cover just yet... Pizzaboy, put away the Mossberg.... This is going to be easy and you wont even have directly to the house, just stop at the gate and you will see a four digit number, project that number in feet from the Waypoint cords at 170.17. Sheesh... Wait! You're not exactly done yet... There is another stage... A mini puzzle if you will. You need to look for the number 67. You will line this number up between 2 and 1. Go forward to this spot and turn north. Happy Hunting!
