Osgood Paddlers' Cache #7: The End of It
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache will bring you to the end of navigation on the western stretch of the Osgood River, and to the end (for now) of the Osgood Paddlers' Cache series. If you've followed the trail, I hope you've come to love this area as much as I do…seen the loons, the ducks, the deer, the eagles, the herons flapping off like pterodactyls, the wood warblers, wrens and sparrows that call this their summer home. Figure about an hour water time from White Pine Camp teahouse to the rock-and-log barrier that marks the end of reasonable navigation. Some distance beyond, the river (as reported by Paul Jamieson in his guidebook "Adirondack Canoe Waters, North Flow") "disappears down a hole in a miniature whirlpool like the last water from a bathtub". It reappears further west, and meanders 8 miles north to Meacham Lake: another lovely paddle and maybe a good place for a few more caches on another day. Like OPC#6, this is pretty well hidden but in a fairly obvious spot. Decrypt the hint for reassurance, since I'd hate to see you come all this way for a DNF. It's a small lock n lock with a few trade items.
