Clear Lake Alpine Club
Everest Climb Practice Hike
Saturday, October 19th at 9:00 a.m.
The Clear Lake Alpine Club is an exceptionally exclusive membership-only club consisting of the most elite mountaineers in the greater Clear Lake area. For the first time ever, we are opening our doors to geocachers for a public mingling. We invite all aspiring mountaineers to join us on one of our Mt. Everest practice climbs.
Participants should log a Will-Attend and let us know if you are coming to rub elbows with those that have seen the top of the world, or plan on participating in our preparation regimen. Participants should ensure they are wearing supportive mountaineering boots, appropriate clothing for the weather, which, at altitude, may change in a matter of minutes, and bring all necessary personal safety gear. Crampons are not needed for this practice hike this early in the season.
Bring your travel bugs -- it's good to practice the climb with extra weight -- and take photos of them from the top of Kemah. And bring your cell phones in case some of you with less experience at altitude don't follow proper roping procedures and get injured, scared, or altitude sickness. Safety in numbers. Please: no ice axes at this event -- public display of them tends to scare the locals.

After the event we will have a short clinic on adjusting and calibrating your GPS compass. We have found some who rely on an uncalibrated compass may get misdirected by their GPS unit.
