Please note, as of February 1st, 2014, I am a Floridian! This cache is up for adoption, so let me know if you're interested. If you see that this cache needs a new log, I'd appreciate the help to keep it active! Thanks!
Ten years ago, long before there was a Nevada State College, a hospice center, a Liberal Arts building, a housing development or even our beloved Wagon Wheel Walking Trail, there was only the large, two-story, two-tone beige building you see to your northeast of the cache. At that time, it was home to the City of Henderson's Building Department, Quality Control Division and Soils Lab. My dad and I worked there for a short period before the City sold the building to the then new Nevada State College and moved the City departments to the current Moser Street location. Rumor has it, the City sold the building for only one dollar, as they wanted an accredited higher-education facility. The college moved in, and in the past decade has not only built new facilities, but has added other study-majors than the few it originally offered. Prior to that, the building served as a warehouse for a vitamin and nutritional supplement company for several years.
You can park on the shoulder of Compassion Street (off Nevada State Drive), just past the hospice center, and walk to the cache. It's not far, and should be a pretty quick grab, but it is on rocky, uneven surface. You probably won't be noticed, depending on what time of the day you go, but there may be student-muggles about so be wary. As always, it's a desert out there so watch for critters and where you put your hands. You'll probably see tons of quail and the ocassional bunnies and chipmunks.
