When I was young we used to have wonderful caravan holidays in France. The first year we went to Mayenne. That was very enjoyable. The following year we ventured down to Calvados, where the holiday was somewhat marred when my sister got bitten by a spider of all things. The next year we toured a little around Eure-et-Loir, Basses-Alpes (as it was called back then), and Aisne, although as I recall it rained a lot. My favourite of all the holidays was our trip to Hautes-Alpes, as I was allowed to take my new bicycle along in the caravan. I also remember our trip to Ain, when the wheel came off the caravan on a mountain pass - that was a little hairy to say the least. Our final trip was to Haute-Marne, after which my sister left for university. We took package holidays after that, but I always remember those holidays in France and the joy of the open road.
