Geocache Description:

This is my very first Micro, a camouflaged bison tube in a site just off the river's main channel.  There was no PO at the time of placement. The micro, as usual, only has room for the log, please remember to bring a pen or pencil.  The cache is located within sight of one of the last remaining shallow pools of the season.

CONGRATULATIONS to Manahoonie for the FTF!!!

Historically, people have diverted water from the Carmel River for their own use.  This dried the lower reaches of the waterway, and has negatively affected the steelhead habitat.  Dams have also been a barrier to steelhead migration upstream.  Ongoing restoration efforts have created improved conditions for steelhead to spawn.

Many volunteers assist with the restoration and conservation of the steelhead fishery on the Carmel River and its watershed. For the last 29 years, volunteers have dedicated an average of 500 hours per year and rescued approximately 10,000 young steelhead per year. These tiny fish are put in the lagoon or areas of the river where there is a chance for survival.
