Geocache Description:

neapolitan mountain or layer mountain is a unique looking mountain that you can find while hiking the mark berger traverse or by doing a day trip past twin lakes. you could also start at monashee lake and it would take you probably two days to get here. the cache container is a small rubbermaid container hidden on the very peak of the mountain.

this cache was placed on the first day of our hike; the mark berger traverse. The Traverse is in the monashee mountain range. it is about 27km, and you are hiking up and down peaks, meadows and glaciers. You can start the hike at either end(twin lakes or monashee lake). we chose the twin lakes. The elevation is around 8000 feet.in between twin lakes and monashee lake you will have to find your own routes, as there is very few trail marker flags and no actual trails... we did the hike in three days, but there is so many things to explore you could take more time. we also ran into unpredicatble weather so be prepared for anything. day 1, we hiked to the bottom of mount severide;passing many peaks and summiting neopolatin mountain and boulder peak. the second day we decided to hike over top of mount severide...you can also take the round about way and go around severide on the east side. when we decided to go over, we had to hike up a glacier and slide down on the other side, in august. that night we set up camp at riuolx lake. the third day we hiked from riuolx lake to monashee lake and then down to the parking lot. you can do the hike in anyway you want, but if you would like our gps map please send us an email and we can send it to you.

to access neopolitan mountain you can park at the twin lakes parking lot and follow the ridge past twin lakes. there is no real trail past twin lakes so gps and knowledge of the area is a must.
