I was around and about my old stomping grounds with my Sassy GeoKids today hitting caches north of Wildwood. Had a fun walk down memory lane telling my kids stories about adventures in fields my dad used to work near by, the old lady we used to hear from across the feild yelling at her deaf hubby that was still nothing but a teenager inside. The old haunted hutterite colony. The "Offspray" that made a nest on top of power pole with hay and bindertwine that it got caught up in & afternoon myself and Auntie and Uncle sat on the side of the road watching the firemen try and release this bird. I had a few good stories about this bridge I was able to share with my kiddos, like the time back when I was 16 driving my brand new truck over this bridge going at a fairly rediculous speed and hammered down on the breaks on the loose gravel, which ended with me in the ditch with a blown tire! Then being a stupid scared teenage girl drove the truck all the way home on a blown tire, destroyed the rim and had to call my Uncle Ray to come and save my butt so I wouldnt have to deal with the wrath of my father lol. I learnt how to change a tire that summer.
Anyways the kids love leaving bridge caches for our fellow cachers and since I had a Bufferfly in the truck to add to our "Cheyennes Epilepsy Awareness" series we have beeen spreading during our travels we decided to leave one here, cause the area is special to me as I traveled this road daily on the school bus for 11 years and this road holds alot of memories for me. It may seem like a off in the boonie type of area to others but, to me its memory alley :) What your looking for here is a large type of Micro, and in sticking with out Epilepsy Awareness theme (purple and purple butterflies) you will find the container attached to a handpainted (by my children) purple butterfly.
Cheyenne’s Epilepsy Awareness Series was started on the far side of Isle Lake and after placing 1-13 at the lake we have been spreading 14 & on farther and farther out and about to do our part to spread awareness.
Epilepsy can strike anyone at any time and any age, it is not just hereditary. It affects over 50 million people worldwide and 65-70% of all cases are Idiopathic, which means they lay in the category of "unknown cause".
What is a seizure?... A seizure is the brains way of protecting itself from a build-up of electricity in the brain its like pressing the reset button on a computer, the brain seizes to expel the built up electricity and reboots itself. You may find them scary and frightening to see but put yourself in the shoes of the person it is happening to and then you will know the true meaning of fear. Please do not be concerned that the person is going to swallow their tongue, that is a myth and is actually impossible. As soon as you see a seizure begin make sure the person is safe and not able to unknowingly hurt themselves, (I always pick my daughter up and hold her loosely on her side so her first gasp of air after a seizure isn’t a mouth full of saliva in to the lungs) and 'START TIMING IT' a seizure lasting more than 5 minutes requires immediate medical attention as it can be damaging and life threatening. After a seizure is over in many cases the person can remain "post-tictal" for a period of time, which is when the body has finished its seizure and is in a way rebooting itself. The person will no longer be seizing but the person may remain unresponsive, in a dreamlike state or just be very tired and want to spend some time sleeping. It is very important to remain calm as an outsider while this is happening (which is not easy, believe me I know) and the person is trying to come back around as to not scare the person farther than they already are. All you can do is be comforting and supportive during this time.
There is many different kinds of seizures and modern day meds have found ways of controlling them for some people. Though is cases such our daughter with hard to control seizures, it can take multiple meds to gain control which cases other problems. It is said that 40% of all people with epilepsy will die a seizure related death (accidental while having a seizure, seizure complications and sudden death in epilepsy being amongst these causes).
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope you enjoy our geocache and maybe learnt something you never knew before. Good luck getting your smilie!
