The market town of Church Stretton has close ties to London hailing back to the Victorian era as a Spa resort. The area is known as Little Switzerland. The Scout group was started in 1910 after B-P himself stayed at the Long Mynd Hotel. This was just 3 years after Scouting officially began in the UK. The Scout group was originally 1st Longmynd but after shutting down briefly for WWII it reopened with the current name 2nd Longmynd. Many youngsters have been through the scouts and we currently have a Beaver colony, two Cub packs, a Scout troop and an Explorer unit. Scouting in the Strettons celebrated 100 years in 2010 with a huge beacon on top of Little Caradoc across the valley. Whilst you are grabbing this cache you may want to check out some of the other excellent ones in the area.
This cache is not placed by The Scout Association, it is a personal cache to celebrate a wonderful organisation that I am involved in.
Please feel free to upload images of yourself with your necker/scarf/uniform or your scout hut. Cheers.
