This area has changed a bit in the past 30 years that our family has been in the area. This was previously the private property of Union Carbide. The Tech Center employeed thousands of scientists and engineers supporting their facilities around the world. As you will see this is no longer the case. These are now public roads that access a few remaining Union Carbide, Dow, and MATRIC buildings as well as the Kanawha Valley Community College. The area near the cache used to the location of the Union Carbide Rec Center. There was a fitness center, tennis courts, and a gym for volleyball and basketball leagues. I would sometimes go here after work to walk on the treadmills or play some volleyball. My most memorable occassion here is when my friend lost her engagement ring in the locker room and we spent a great deal of time digging through the trash cans trying to find it. (We did!) But now, all that is here is a big grassy field and parking lots. I wish I had before and after pictures of this location. I will have to go through my old photos and see if I can find anything. More than likely I won't have any since we weren't allowed to have cameras on site due to security reasons. Yes, times have changed!
This cache is being placed for a fellow geocacher who works in this area. He's been whining a recently about not getting any FTFs, so maybe he can get this one. ;)
