Geocache Description:

Cache is a nano with log sheet only. BYO writing stick.

Parking available at GZ. Watch the geokids - during the dry season lots of roadtrains can be on the road.

When travelling on the Savannah Way remember that it takes trucks and roadtrains quite a long time to slow down, especially when they are fully loaded. Always pay extra attention at bends, crests and bridges and always give way to roadtrains.

Amungee Mungee is 80km East of the Staurt Highwy along the Carpentaria Highway heading toward Queensland on the Savannah Way.

Amungee Mungee Station was built on an all year round waterhole

Remote stations such as Amungee Mungee rely heavily on the old postal system and collecting the mail is no easy task. Unlike the majority of us, the staff can't simply pop down to the local post office and pick up the mail. It is about a 30km round trip from the homestead to the post box on the highway on roads subject to bone jarring corrugations and can be as slippery as ice in the wetter months.

Other, more remoe cattle stations in the Northern Territory don't even have the luxury of owning a letter box. They rely on mail planes - which often only fly to remote stations once a month. During the wet season they often have to cancel several trips and it can be months until the mail arrives.
