Avis Domus Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

GeoKs: Thanks, Cache Effect, for the nudge to make a decision about this one. After much consideration, and mostly giving consideration to the fact that we've already paid for 2 replacement locks for this one, it's time to archive. Always regret archiving a cache b/c rough treatment makes for a heavy burden in terms of owner maintenance.

Geocache Description:

This "in plain sight" avis domus is specifically sized/designed for smaller birds of the Canadian Rockies. You will have no trouble spotting the structure. But once you do, expect to encounter a few twists and turns in your quest to locate and sign the official log sheet - hence the 4-star difficulty rating. PLEASE DO NOT TURN THE SLOT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LOCK AS IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LOCATING THE LOG!

This is one of ten geocaches in our Parkway Challenge Series. All caches in the series are placed in close proximity to the network of pathways along either side of the Three Sisters Parkway. The challenge is to find and sign the official log for all ten geocaches. There’s no set order for finding the caches and no information to collect. We’ll reward the first five geocaching accounts to complete the challenge with an unactivated GeoKs’ geocoin, delivered via snail mail unless alternate arrangements are made.

The terrain rating for all caches in the series is two or lower. We rode bikes or walked to place all the caches in their hiding spots. The difficulty ratings range from 1.5 to 5. Several caches in the series are highly engineered. Brute force is NOT required. Brain power IS required. If you can't open a cache in this series, there's probably something about the cache container that you haven't yet figured out. Please re-read the cache title, description and hint (if any) for any information you may have overlooked and then try again.

The other geocaches in the series are:
GC4KAQ4 – Welcome to Three Sisters
GC4M9H3 – A Bird's Eye View (Reimagined)
GC755H7 - Birdhouse MAZE
GC4NCWC – Angry Birds?
GC4M9HJ – Alexander Graham Bell
GC4M9HT – Ironhide
GC5XYK2 – Pipe Dreams II
GC4M9HE – Riverside Trail
GC4NCWX – The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

This cache page includes hints and clues that should allow you to determine 1) the combination to open the lock and 2) the motion that is essential to access the official log sheet. Remember, in order to post an online "found" log for this cache you must have a corresponding entry on the official logsheet. No exceptions. We will delete online logs if this basic Geocaching requirement is not met. Thank you for your understanding.

NOTE: This area is frequented by wildlife, including elk, deer and occasionally coyotes, bears and/or cougars. Please be WILDSMART - make lots of noise and carry bear spray (and know how to use it).

This cache is a short walk from "GC4KAQ4 - Welcome to Three Sisters" and we recommend you leave your vehicle parked on Fitzgerald Rise and walk the short distance to this cache from there. If you prefer closer parking, there is lots of room just across the Parkway along Dyrgas Gate.

We dropped by to perform maintenance on the cache 19APR14 and were disappointed to find someone had added a unofficial log sheet to the cache. We have removed this log. The following cachers have actually signed the official log sheet:

Prairie Chicken, van der Decken, xGoddogx, The Fillibusters, RedRouge, J2D2, Takin it Easy, Momzee, Pokey & Reese, Makin Traks, BigR, Little L & the Minis, Kottbullar

Congratulations to the successful finders.

We have had to replace the lock 3 times because cachers have turned the slot on the bottom of the lock. Please do not turn the slot on the bottom of the lock as it renders the lock useless and it will not help you locate the log sheet.
