Description:
Claymont has been a continuous settlement near the mouth of Naamans Creek on the Delaware River since at least A.D. 1200. The first western inhabitants named the creek and settlement after the Lenape chief who occupied the region. During the colonial period, the town served as a stop along the King's Highway, and with its location at the confluence of Interstate 95, Interstate 495, Governor Printz Boulevard and Philadelphia Pike, has long been a thoroughfare for travel between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

The Claymont Steel mill is an old steel processing site located in Claymont, Delaware. Originally known as Worth Steel company it was owned by Edward and Anna Worth in the early and mid 1900's. It has also been know a Phoenix Steel in the 1980's and as CitiSteel when it was owned by a Chinese company that bought it out of bankruptcy in 1989. The current owners since 2008 are Russian. This mill specializes in the manufacture of custom-order steel plate made out of scrapped automobile steel. The 425-acre plant houses an electric arc furnace mini-mill and employs approximately 500 people.
