This cache was originally placed for the First State Challenge 2013 sponsored by Delaware Geocachers! Although the challenge has ended, this cache is still available to be found!!

Cache Details:
The raceway is now a large shopping complex. Be wary of muggles. Drive around and also see the lake and fountains

Description:
This cache commemorates a Delaware icon that existed in North Wilmington for over 40 years. The Brandywine Raceway opened in 1953 and was the first Harness Track in the Delaware Valley. The first season even had live, local TV coverage, which was cutting edge at the time. The original track was a half mile, but was transformed to a 5/8 mile track in 1970 and held over 25,000 fans. The 2 minute barrier was broken there in 1960 by Adios Butler.

The track was only open in the evenings, had first class dining in the clubhouse, and drew thousands every night to place their $2.00 bets to show. It even hosted live entertainment to the likes of The Pointer Sisters and The Grease Band. As Atlantic City Casinos began to boom, and other harness tracks opened up, the popularity dwindled, and the track closed in 1990. The structure was imploded in 1995.

This land is still quite busy, as it is now home to several shopping centers at the corner of Naamans Rd. and Concord Pike. The final cache is on these grounds.
