Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed for the First State Challenge 2013 sponsored by Delaware Geocachers! Although the challenge has ended, this cache is still available to be found!!

Cache Details:
Follow the signs for Auburn Heights trail using reference waypoint (N 39° 48.431 W 075° 40.831) and parking waypoint. You will drive down a gravel one lane road that seems like someones driveway.

From parking you will be going on a 0.5 mile round trip walk on a new paved trial. There is about 125 feet of elevation gain. Actual hide is 100 feet from the trail. It is recommended that you access this cache from the upper side of the trail--do not bushwhack until you have a hard left. You will have to walk through some tall grass.

From March 1 thru November 30th, there is a self-pay parking fee of $3 for state residents and $6 for out of state visitors. Your receipt for any one day is good for entry into all other Delaware State Parks on the same day.

Like all state parks, it is open daily from 8 am to sunset

Description:
Auburn Heights Preserve is one of Delaware's newest State Parks. The preserve is nearly 200 acres with a walking trail of 1.3 miles and an expansion project in the works to make it a total of 6 miles walking trail. The Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve, Inc. and Delaware State Parks maintain the muesum and the grounds offering tours and educational programs for people of all ages.

The Marshall Steam Museum features the world's largest operating collection of Stanley steam cars. The museum offers a remarkable operating collection of antique autos, ranging in date from 1901 to 1937. Fifteen of the cars are "steamers" including a 1901 Mobile one White steam car, one electric car, and two internal combustion 12 cylinder Packards from the 1930's. The museum also exhibits the history of the Marshall family, the local mill town of Yorklyn, small locomotives and model steam engines, standard- gauge Lionel electric trains from the 1930s, and antique music machines.

Tours of the muesum are offered April through November. Included is a behind the scenes look at the Auburn Heights estate. Tour tickets are $7/person for either the Mansion or Museum — or tour both for the discounted price of $12/person (a savings of $2 per person). For questions or to schedule a visit, call (302) 239-2385 or e-mail admin@AuburnHeights.org. Registration is required at least two days in advance.
