I often hear people asking questions about how to use various computer programs to do things like projections, triangulations, and trilaterations. You know, general puzzle solving stuff. I thought it might be a good idea to have an event where we can sit down and share information on the various programs and websites that make these sort of caches easier to find. I'll get us a room in the Math/Science building at UAFS. We'll have plenty of desk space for everyone, as well as a projector so we can all see what's going on. I'll do my best to have a few extension cords and power strips, but if you have a spare it might be a good idea to bring it along. Everyone bring your computer. It doesn't matter if it's a laptop or a desktop. We'll have folks to help move your stuff inside and I'll get us a cart or two so we don't have to carry everything.
Topics to be discussed include: Triangulation, Trilateration, Converting points between different coordinate systems, Various mapping programs (which, for fear of running afoul of rules and regs, will not be mentioned by name), Plus anything else that anyone wants to work on. If you want to discuss something that I missed, just say the word and we'll work on it. I'm not saying that I'm an absolute wizard with this stuff, but I'm pretty good and I'm betting that if we get a few of us together that somebody in the group will know the answer to your question. This means that this event won't be the same without YOU!!
Keep an eye on this listing and I'll post a room number in the Math/Science building as soon as I have one. I'll try to get us one of the big lecture halls, but if a student group needs it we'll let them have it. Campus has free wi-fi, so we'll be able to download anything we need during class. If you don't have a wi-fi adapter for your computer, I'll have at least one spare that I can loan out and I'll try to have two or three just-in-case.
Let's meet up at 5:00. Everyone bring a couple of bucks to pitch in and we'll send someone down the road to a pizza place down the road to grab some pizzas. We'll eat while we work.
I'll see you there!
