Dieser Earthcache führt euch ins Zittauer Gebirge zum Kelchstein. Er besteht aus einem recht bindemittelarmen Sandstein der Kreide. Die eigenwillige Form eines "Pilzes", durch die der Kelchstein zu den sogenannten Pilzfelsen zählt, ist Ergebniss von Vorgängen wie Windschliff und Errosion. Verschieden harte Schichten des Kelchstein an denen Windschliff und Verwitterungsvorgänge arbeiten konnten waren Vorraussetzung für diese Formgebung.
Der Unterschied zu anderen, in der Nähe vorkommenden Gesteinsformationen, ist die natürliche, teilweise rote Färbung des Sandsteins.

Um loggen zu dürfen beantwortet folgende Fragen:
1. Aufgrund von eingelagertem Eisenoxidhydrat ist der Kelchstein teilweise gelbrot gefärbt. Welches Gestein oder Mineral könnte hier demzufolge Hauptfarbgeber sein? Es sind durchaus zwei Mineralien die hier als richtig angesehen werden können. Die Tafel vor Ort ist lediglich eine Hilfestellung in welche Richtung ihr recherchieren müßt!!! Bitte keine Antworten wie "Farbgeber ist eingelagertes Eisenoxidhydrat"!!! Hier müßt ihr wirklich in die Recherche gehen. Aber es ist nicht sehr schwer!
2. Erosion durch Windschliff (Korrasion) oder Erosion durch Verwitterungsprozesse? Erkläre mit eigenen Worten anhand der unmittelbaren Umgebung des Kelchstein was wohl den größeren Anteil an der Formgebung des Kelchstein hatte! Schaut euch vor Ort gut um und schreibt mir eure eigene Meinung. Ich will keine verkrampften Erklärungsversuche mit Hilfe des Internets!
3. Suche am Kelchstein die Ansicht (Bild 1) Beschreibe mir den exakten Farbverlauf von links nach rechts, optional drucke Bild1 aus und male den rot umrandeten Bereich farbig GENAU nach! Ich würde mich sehr freuen wenn du mir dieses Bild als Scan oder Foto mit deinen Antworten zukommen läßt.

Korrasion vs. Erosion
This Earthcache will lead you to the Zittau mountains to Kelchstein. It consists of a very low binder sandstone of the Cretaceous. The distinctive shape of a "fungus", for which reason the Kelchstein is a so-called mushroom rocks, is the consequence of wind grinding and erosion. Different layers of different hard sandstone were conditions for wind grinding and weathering processes to give the stone this shape.
The difference to other, occurring near rock formations, is the natural, partially red color of the sandstone.

Answer the folowing questions to log this Earthcache:
1. The Kelchstein is colored partly red. What rock or mineral is the reason? The plaque at the spot is only an aid to the direction in which you must investigate!
2. Wind grinding (Korrasion) or erosion of weathering processes? Explain in your own words based on the immediate environment of the Kelchstein which the greater proportion of the shape of the Kelchstein was!? Behold good at the spot and send me your own opinion. I do not want a cramped attempt to explain with the help of the internet!
3. Search on Kelchstein the view (Figure 1) Explain the exact gradient of colour from left to right in the red box, optional print the image (Figure1) and paint it with the exact colours. I would be very happy if you can send me a scan or photo from this painted image with your answers.
