The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States. The Marine Corps is a component of the United States Department of the Navy, often working closely with naval forces for training, transportation, and logistics; however, the Marine Corps is a separate branch.
This is a two-stage mission. The first stage will take you to the “LZ”, or Landing Zone. LZ is available only from 0600-2200, so please plan accordingly. The following was the transmission passed by the V-22 “Osprey” unit:

Now that you know where you will be landing, you will need to use the map below to find the final location. Communications from a Marine Reconnaissance Battalion were lost while they were making their way south. Your mission is to retrace their steps, and try to find them. Through past communications, we know that they passed the Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV) Operations Area shorty after passing the LCAC Hovercraft Operations Area. Comms were lost shortly thereafter. “Bushwhacking” was not mentioned by the radio operator, so Intelligence believes they stayed on course. Arial surveillance recently observed three large mortars south of the area. Find the mortars, and you will find the missing Marines (and the log). Good Luck!
On 11/02/2020 a new communication was received from the lost Marine Reconnaissance Battalion. Your new mission is to decode the following communication, and then mount an effort to rescue the Battalion. Good luck.

This is the thirteenth cache in this series and it is dedicated to the men and women in the armed forces...and especially to those young men and women who have aspirations to join the active services once they enter their adult years.
Added 3/14/2016: BTCO was the owner of this military series of 26 caches either through the initial publication or through adoption. When he moved to Iowa he did not think he would be able to continue to properly maintain the series. As I had served 27 years in the Air Force he thought I would be a logical choice to assume the ownership of the series. I agreed with his assessment and I adopted the series from him.
