Geocache Description:

A nice stop to look at some agricultural history at a major crossroad.

This Mccormick Deering thresher operated in the early 1900's and was commonly powered by mules or primative engines attached to the machine by long fabric belts. Farmers would bring the wheat shocks to the thresher on threshing day. It was always a big event that would draw people for miles. Farmers would be hesistant shutting down the whole system to remove a small jam and would reach in.. YANK! The whirling belts and wheels and gears would tear an appendage off instantly. A resident grandfathers arm was removed by a machine just like this, and he survived by gripping the stump with his remaining hand so fiercely that he stopped the bleeding in time to make it to the hospital. your looking for a small ammo box attached with a chain, watch out for wasps and other creatures that enjoy the shelter. congrats to 24996 for FTF!
