An interesting fact, Central City used to have a brewery named "The Black Hills Brewery" back in 1878-1917. The water supply from Deadwood Creek was so much cleaner and colder than Deadwood, and there weren't as many miners in town back then. And of course, gold was also founded here back in 1876. The beer from the brewery was named "Gold Nugget Beer". By 1877 there were over 3,000 people living in Central City. Today, it is recorded as 135 people, yet I am sure the local gas station sees hundreds of people per day. Central City even had it' sown newspaper, which went out of business by 1890 and it also had it's own schoolhouse.
