Krantzkloof Nature Reserve - The White Trail
The White Trail is one of the lesser-known Krantzkloof Trails. This trail runs from the Kloof Falls Rd Picnic Site towards the Valley Drive picnic site, ending at the junction with the Yellow Trail near Margaret Crescent. From there the Yellow Trail leads to the Valley Drive Picnic Site.
Starting from the Kloof Falls Road end (Trail Marker #3), the White Trail winds its way up a steep hill and crosses Bridle Road in the vicinity of # 53, re-entering the reserve on the opposite side of Bridle Road. From there it follows the edge of the escarpment with some magnificent views of the main gorge, and gradually drops down to cross the Nkonka River at a beautiful waterfall. This is a good spot for a short refreshment break.
Once over the Nkonka River, you climb through a steep gully (with log steps) back to the top of the escarpment and follow the northern ridge line through the forest and onwards towards the grasslands between Kloof View Road and Margaret Crescent. The Yellow Trail joins up with the White Trail at this point (Trail Marker 15), and the last kilometer of trail drops gently to the Valley Drive Picnic Site.
The entire trail is about 6km long and should take about 3 hours to complete. You do NOT need to walk the full trail to find this cache!
