Beneath the roar of rubber and steel,
Where secrets whisper and silence is real,
Along Interstate 81’s tireless vein,
At Exit 69, just shy of the lane,
Dwells a cache in shadow, biding its time.
A rust-bitten guardrail, humble and gray,
Marks a waypoint off the traveler’s way.
Eighty-One hums with its ceaseless tone,
Yet near its edge, you are never alone.
Tucked in the crook where bolts have gone cold,
It cradles the stories the searchers told—
Of logbooks signed in twilight hush,
And hearts that thrill at the quiet rush.
Truckers roll by with their mile-long songs,
Wanderers pause where the small world belongs.
No gold it holds, no precious stone,
Just proof that no one walks alone.
So hats off to the sentinel unseen,
Who guards the rail and the space between.
The Guardian of 69 holds the line,
Where dreams meet asphalt and stars align.
