While in the area doing cache maintenance, I found this little gem of a boat launch, conveniently located right on Rt. 12. I believe any boat launch in the state is deserving of a cache, making it easy for paddlers to locate launches. I usually prefer to hide at least a small container, but lacking good hiding spots here, I went with a micro. Talked to a guy who was going out crabbing in his kayak here and he mentioned catching 40 blue crabs in 1 1/2 hrs. This is the beginning of the Poquetanuck Cove Canoe/Kayak Trail and a map, with points of interest, is available at http://www.thamesriverbasinpartnership.org/acrobat_files/PoquetanuckCove.canoe.kayak.trail.pdf. You can paddle north through the cove for about 2 miles, or by paddling south half a mile, you go under the low Providence and Worchester Railroad bridge and out into the Thames River. Be aware these are tidal waters and best done around high tide. So, after grabbing the cache, grab your boat and get out on this beautiful cove. Enjoy!
