The purpose of this cache is to give you a good start caching in Tahoe and also raise awareness to the many environmental organizations that are working here to protect Lake Tahoe and the environment in general. To name just a few, there are non-profit organizations (such as League to Save Lake Tahoe, Sugar Pine Foundation, Tahoe-Baikal Institute, Tahoe Fund, Sierra Nevada Alliance, etc.), governmental agencies (such as Lahontan Water Quality Control Board, California Tahoe Conservancy, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, USFS/LTBMU, etc.), scientific and educational institutions (such as Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition, etc.).
If you want to learn more about Lake Tahoe and how you can contribute to its conservation, please visit any of these organizations' website. You may also stop at these information points: Visitor Information Station (information tables, not walk-in center) in Meyers (about 200 feet further on Hwy. 50 from here), Taylor Creek Visitor Center (Hwy 89, Past the Tallac Historic Site), League to Save Lake Tahoe office (2608 Lake Tahoe Boulevard), LTBMU - USFS (35 College Drive), or the Explore Tahoe Visitor Center (in the Heavenly Village).
Enjoy caching and educating yourself!
