Viaduct View Traditional Cache
Team-SK: Sad to say bye to this one, but there is still a lot of long term works going on here and the layby is still closed. Plus, this road is no longer on my commute to work, so will struggle to maintain in future anyway. Thanks everyone.

This cache is a small plastic container. You will need your own pen or pencil to sign the log. There is parking in the layby at GZ. A good cache and dash along the A59, only suitable driving East to West. However there is a roundabout a mile away to turn around, if approaching from the West.
This cache was placed to take in the view of the Viaduct, known locally as the Whalley Arches. Half of Team-Sk drive past every day to work and admire the view and has often thought, this would be a nice place for a cache, finally we have got round to placing it! It was built around 1848, Victorian, to carry the railway over the river Calder. It is the longest brick viaduct in Lancashire. 605 m long, consisting of 29 arches of 9 m (30ft) and 20 arches of 12 m (40ft), it took three years to complete at a cost of £40,000. The bricks were made in Whalley from clay taken from Hardle Common. In 2011, Network Rail engineers found that one of its 49 arches had begun to slip because wooden pilings have rotted. Plans were put in place to insert New steel pilings and the underneath of the arch will be sprayed with concrete.
