Geocache Description:

The cache is an uncamoed pill bottle. @ the old Elementry School. The cache is within 50' of that marker. The coords are spotty, but close enough. As of 05-26-2023 I discovered the tall dead stump has been removed... cache container gone too. I replaced it with the pill bottle and it can be seen from the "driveway". It is now attached to a branch of a pine fir.

NOTICE! 09/2025: Due to the town of Hill not completing the mowing in the Old Hill Vlg, they did not get to the Elementary School site. Thusly, the grass is neck high, full of ticks, and inaccessible. Anyone logging the finds along the roadway need NOT go in and SL. If possible, take a picture of the Elementary school marker by the road and go ahead and log it Found. This is a temporary measure and will remain in effect till further notice. Stay safe! In February, 1937, residents of Hill Village, NH learned that their village, near the Pemigewasset River, was to become a flood control reservoir for the Franklin Falls dam project. To accommodate the construction of the Franklin Falls Dam, the village of Hill NH was to be relocated. By January, 1940, the citizens of Hill, NH formed an association, purchased land, and began planning a new model village with the help of the NH State Planning and Development Commission. Construction started in 1940, and by June, 1941 the new town hall and school were completed, along with the streets, water system, and 30 houses. And the old village indeed was flooded into history. Look for water line markers that show the levels the water reached, far above entire buildings. Today, we are left with the history and remains of Hill Village, New Hampshire. A town that is now frozen in time just as it was left in 1941. The cache is a tribute to the old Hill Village Elementry School. And while the buildings are long gone in the old village, the town markers now stand as eerie reminders of days long gone by. Access to the "Old Rte 3A" can be reached from a number of points and roads in Hill, Bristol or Franklin. The old village is open to the public year round, but restricts wheeled MV traffic, except (generally speaking) once a year, the weekend after Labor Day weekend. On that weekend, authorities open up the gates to allow the public to drive in and around the village, to explore, remember, live & learn. Snowmobiles are allowed during the winter months. Most all other times, enjoy the very scenic walk along well maintained, and well marked roads and trails. Congrats to 5stevens' for FTF! I wish you woulda won BIG on the lotto. There'll be more coming.
