Geocache Description:

Lets join the Durban Beach Cleanup initiative, who is teaming up with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife for the International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday 21st at 09:00.  We'll be assisting them at La Lucia beach which is off Lady Ellen crescent. Rubber gloves and bags will be supplied for the cleanup.

Durban Beach Cleanup was started in June 2011 by Nicole Brauteseth and Ingrid Butcher who wanted to get a group of friends together for a once-off cleanup. From the immensely positive response via social media, they decided to hold cleanups on a monthly basis. Tuffy Brands and Island Tribe came on board as sponsors a couple of months later. The initiative has grown substantially since its inception with Quiksilver now on board, as well as Wasteman Holdings, Ceres and GIG Network solutions. DBC not only aim to remove litter from the beaches and waterways each month, but also to educate people, (especially the youth) about pollution and the importance of the ocean. In 2012 DBC removed almost 1 tonn of trash from the Durban beaches and, thus far in 2013, we've removed 859kgs. DBC would like to expand our scope to cover beaches both North and South of Durban, as well as inland waterways and therefore will soon be "upgrading" to KZN Beach Cleanup.
