Elijah Clark returned to Augusta in 1776 and though he had a home he decided to build a second one. First course of action was preparing the logs then with the help of his son he gathered rocks for the chimney. Soon after neighbors were happy to help and the final outcome was a two room log home. In those days, the doors and windows had to be reinforced and there were very narrow openings used as look-outs etc., in case of an attack.
