Geocache Description:

Welcome to the town of Gillam, Manitoba. Parking is available immediately as you enter the town on the Highway 280.

Gillam is a small community that is the main staging point for most of the work Manitoba Hydro does in the area.

Gillam itself is considered the "Gillam Local Government District" and is the largest town in Manitoba by area. The population is around 1500 people with many transient workers coming in and out throughout the summer and winter.

The economy of Gillam is driven by Manitoba Hydro and the large hydro-electric dams built on the Nelson River. Currently, there are 4 complete dams (Kettle, Long Spruce, Henday, and Limestone), a fifth is being constructed (Keyask), the sixth is in the environmental impact stage (Conawapa) and a seventh has been proposed (Gillam Island). Any method of getting to Gillam will give you a great appreciation of the dams and Manitoba Hydro's influence here.

This cache is placed in the recreational area at the north end of town. You can park safely by the baseball diamond, and explore the creek area where the cache is. You can also walk over to take your picture with the Gillam sign.

The cache is a regular sandwich sized lock and lock container covered in camouflage tape. It contains a logbook and pencil and a bit of spare room for trackables.
