Geocache Description:

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ... SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ... SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

All good things must come to an end. We've all heard it before but the Planning Team has been struggling with how to say it. The Fall Picnic Planning Team has made a very hard decision. Unanimously, the team has decided to retire from hosting the annual event. The picnic is near and dear to our hearts but it is time for us to take a much need break and just sit back and enjoy our love of geocaching for a while.

We would like to thank all past and present team members for their vision, hard work and dedication to this awesome event. Of course, the fall picnic could not have been the success it is without all of you, our loyal attendees. We've loved seeing you year after year and will think fondly of our time together each September.

2014 Indiana Fall Picnic

Each year the Indiana Fall Picnic has traveled to different parts of Central and Southern Indiana. For the 2014 event the goal was to find a location along the I-65 corridor. Our first and last stop in our search was Hardy Lake. It was the perfect location for the 13th Annual Indiana Fall Picnic.

As we researched the venue it was clear we made the right choice. Hardy Lake is a 2,178 acre property with a beautiful 741 acre lake. Hiking trails each have their own draw including oak-hickory and beech-maple climax forests, archery stations, beaver cuttings and wildlife food plots, bird nest structures, colonies of mound-building ants and first hand view of the devastation left from a tornado.

Hardy Lake is also home to the Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Center. The Raptor Center is home to 12 permanently injured birds of prey including an Bald Eagle.

The weekend will begin with a Friday evening Meet and Greet (GC4N21W) where it’s time for a little food and some great companionship. It’s always hard to decide, do you eat or do you talk? Try to manage a little of both. Share a table with some new and old caching friends as you snack on appetizers.

Of course, you will want to hang around for the Night Cache. Don’t forget to put a flashlight on your packing list. You will need it.

Saturday’s Fall Picnic will be an entire day of fun, socializing and events. The day’s activities are:

REGISTRATION: "Will Attend" logs on the cache page are encouraged but DOES NOT register you for the day's events. REGISTRATION is requested. Please include everyone on the registration form regardless of age. This information is used during planning and most importantly to create registration packets, including lanyard nametags. Registrations submitted by August 12, 2014 are guaranteed a lanyard name tag and registration packet. After this date, these items are not available, however name tag labels will be available for late registrants.

PITCH-IN LUNCH: Everyone is asked to bring a contribution for the pitch-in lunch. Pitch-in contributions will be exchanged for meal tickets. A pitch-in only works if everyone who eats at the buffet has contributed. Please remember that if you do not contribute to the meal, you will not be given a meal ticket.

Food for thought ... every year we received an overabundance of deli potato salad, coleslaw and macaroni salad. Please consider another option so we don’t have to throw food away. Also, please be sure your dish is pre-cut (if necessary) into portions, to keep the line moving efficiently.

YOUR TRASH GOES HOME WITH YOU! We will once again ask that all guests CITO. Each attendee is asked to carry out their own trash at the end of the event. Trash bags will be provided.

DONATIONS, PRIZES & RAFFLES: Door prizes will be drawn throughout the day. Donations and contributions are greatly appreciated but not required. Be sure to take a look at our raffle items or take a chance on our 50/50 drawing.

MERCHANDISE: Support the Fall Picnic. The sale of logoed merchandise helps defray the cost of the picnic. For additional information, please see the Fall Picnic website. Deadline for pre-orders is August 12th.

GEO-CHALLENGE (Ages 9-17): Have you wanted to get out there with the GeoSurvivor contestants? Here is your chance to get in on the fun. GeoChallenge offers you the opportunity to play a youth version.

GEO-SURVIVOR (Ages 18+): Are you ready for a challenge? Sign-up on the picnic registration form to put your name in the hat for a spot on one of the GeoSurvivor teams. GeoSurvivor has always been the Fall Picnic’s premier event. For the brave at heart take a chance and try your hand at some exciting challenges. A drawing will be held to determine participants and will be announced at the picnic kick-off on September 6th at 9:45am. Sign-up deadline is August 31st.

LODGING: Local hotel are available in Scottsburg, Seymour or Sellersburg. Hardy Lake has both primitive and electric campgrounds. Camping reservations can be made at ReserveAmerica. If you are camping, post your site number on the Fall Picnic Facebook page.
