On September 7th, 2013 this point on Earth forever changed my life and my girlfriends. She thought that we were going to go for a long hike in Racoon Creek State Park, which we did fairly often. Little did she know that I had other plans. I carried a prepared geocache with us into the woods well concealed in my backpack. In the cache was only 1 item... a diamond engagement ring. I found an appropriate location soon into the hike because I knew that I couldn't play it cool for too long. I pulled off the trail for just a second and quickly dumped the cache from my backpack behind a tree. I casually returned to her and we started to walk away. As we did, I suggested that we should look for a geocache. I pulled out my phone and poked around on screens that meant absolutely nothing. She couldn't see my phone, so just had to take my word for it that there was a geocache in the area. She searched for the cache, not knowing that she was searching for her own engagement ring. After not too long, she found the cache and what was inside. Needless to say, I think this is one waypoint neither of us will forget.
Now the cache stands in the woods as a testament to where it all began for us. Every Fall we will journey back to our cache to visit the place where we decided to spend our lives together. We'll read the log book and reminisce about the first time the cache was found. My hope is that my friends and family can also make the pilgrimage to see where we began. And for anyone else that finds the cache... I hope that you're reminded of things that really matter in life.
