"Where we are going, we don't need these roads." Or so someone in our Michigan State Highway Department must have said a time or two. Although our state boasts a large network of current trunkline highways, printed in an eye-pleasing array of blues, reds and blacks, I have often wondered about the small grey lines in the interior spots- those county secondaries and tertiaries- were those ever more important? Even once so?
Below are pictures of 8 decommissioned trunkline highways. The premise is simple- name that Michigan road! Each picture depicts a former highway marked in red. The corresponding values that are asked for will mark the coordinates of the cache location. For example, if you determine the map indicates Michigan Route 43, and the first digit is asked for in its name, the digit would be 4.
Assume the following coordinate information.
N 42 4A.BCD
W084 3E.FGH

A = First digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 167 miles.

B = Second digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 13 miles, including its spur.

C = Second digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 11 miles, including its spur.

D = First digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 18 miles.

E = First digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 11.5 miles.

F = Second digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 3.5 miles only.

G = Third digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 1 mile only.

H = First digit in name
This highway ran for aprox. 16 miles.
