MYSTERY CACHE – GC4N53H
There are two trails, a short one of 2 km marked with yellow arrows and a longer one of 7 km (3 hours) marked with red arrows. There is another more informal path along the escarpment at the turnaround point of the yellow trail. All start at the top of Tipper’s Creek Road between Amsterdamhoek and Bluewater Bay and take a circular route via the escarpment, running through Succulent Thicket on the plateau. Aloes, especially Aloe pluridens (French Aloe), at the start of the trail make a stunning show during June / July as well as Euphorbia caerulescens (Soet Noorsdoring). These plants attract an array of birdlife, making this a rewarding trail for avian enthusiasts. Other animals that may be spotted along this trail include Grysbok, Blue Duiker and the bush pig. Sadly, this is a high poaching area and should you find any form of snare, please remove it and discard of it as far away from the Reserve as possible.
There are views of the sea, city, Redhouse, Zwartkops Nature Reserve and saltpan and beyond to Uitenhage and the Cockscomb, the highest peak in the Winterhoek Mountains.
This area is used by muggles and it is advised that the whole series is not done alone. Walk in a group & use stealth mode where necessary.
