Look for an island between point 10 and point 11 on the James River section of Table Rock Lake. The Table Rock dam was completed in 1959 and the lake was formed by the James and White Rivers. Before that time there were just winding rivers where adventuresome settlers lived and long ago Indian inhabitants traded, going back to 1000-1200 AD; pottery shards and tools from that era were found at Aunts Creek Shelter on the peninsula SE of this island. The river twists upstream to Cape Fair and Galena, where float fishing trips of 5 days were organized in the early 1900's, often ending in Branson. Owen Boat Line had 20 foot long and 30 inch wide John Boats, with a seat in the back for the guide and deck chairs placed in the boat for clients. These clients were often affluent anglers from Midwest cities, as well as celebrities. (ref-Buried by Table Rock Lake, Koob)
There is a good landing area on the west side of the island, a beach of small rocks (no sand on Table ROCK Lake) with paths and no thick underbrush to the cache. You can picnic on this island (find a log, no tables available), but leave NO trash. Many come to picnic here by boat in the summer, so beware of mugglers! This is Army Corps property, which can be used by all those who come to enjoy this beautiful, clean lake. Permission has been received from U.S.A.C.E.to place this cache, a 16 oz. plastic container.
