While hiking up Sauk Mtn. I had hoped to place a new cache along the steeply sloped trail switchbacks. I could not find a place that would hold a cache without jeopardizing the safety of fellow cachers. So I kept climbing up into the beautiful more moderately sloped alpine area. I was obviously too close to another active cache, so I kept climbing climbing right up to the top. I can remember 8 years ago signing a micro cache here, that has been long since archived.
Hmmm. I'd already decided on the caching name based on what I would like to see traded in the cache. Creatures of the trail, such as insects, mammals, birds, etc. While enjoying the view on top in the open sun, I soon noticed that my dog Dilly was gone. Another fellow thought he saw him walking down and behind a very small cliff. I ambled down that way, and there was Dilly, taking advantage of shade, on a very warm day. Smart dog. At that time I also noticed the perfect spot for a cache.
Update: Just visited cache site for maintenance check on 6/29/17. Container is gone. Replaced container with a special micro inside a cloth black 'case'. Spoiler no longer applies, but cache is only inches from where it was originally placed.
The cache is still just west and below the old lookout summit. (The absolute summit is north along a scrambly ridge). The cache is in a rocky alcove that is usually shaded. Please rehide exactly as found.
