Klima - syrmata
The ancient polis of Klima reached a big acme during the archaic (7th-6th c. AD) and the classical (5th-4th c. AD) periods. It was surrounded by strong walls that reached downhill to the sea and was adorned with monumental buildings and exquisite works of art, an indication of great prosperity. The city minted silver coins and developed its own alphabet!!! It is estimated that its theatre could accommodate up to 7000 spectators.
One of the most distinguishing and quaint features of Milos are the “syrmata” –most usually curved into the rock walls- dwellings on the beachfront. The custom originates from the mid 19th c, when there was no more fear of the Turks or the pirates, and so the villagers started feeling free to approach the sea. In “syrmata” (from Grk. “syro” meaning to pull) they were pulling their boats in order to protect them from stormy weathers. On the upper floor they would usually built a retreat for the fisherman, to relieve him from having to walk all the way back home every day.
In our days Klima is a traditional fishing village with very few inhabitants and multicolored two-storeyed “syrmata” in the natural concavities of the rocks. Today most of these “syrmata” are for rent and you can always take excellent photos surrounded by the playful colors of their doors and windows among beautiful friendly cats laying indolently under the sun.

Κλήμα – σύρματα
Η αρχαία πόλη Κλήμα, γνώρισε μεγάλη ακμή την αρχαϊκή (7ο- 6ο αιώνα π.Χ.) και την κλασσική (5ο-4ο αιώνα π.Χ.) εποχή. Ήταν περιτριγυρισμένη με ισχυρά τείχη που έφθαναν μέχρι τη θάλασσα και κοσμείτο με μνημειώδη δημόσια κτίρια και έργα τέχνης, μάρτυρες της ευημερίας που ανέπτυξε. Έκοψε αργυρό νόμισμα και ανέπτυξε ίδιο αλφάβητο!!! Υπολογίζεται ότι το θέατρο της πόλης στην αρχαιότητα, χωρούσε περί τους 7000 θεατές.
Ένα από τα πλέον χαρακτηριστικά και συνάμα γραφικά στοιχεία της Μήλου είναι τα σύρματα, υπόσκαφα συνήθως καταλύματα, πλάι στη θάλασσα. Άρχισαν να κτίζονται από τα μέσα του 19ου αι., όταν είχε εκλείψει πλέον ο φόβος των Τούρκων και των πειρατών και άρα οι κάτοικοι ένιωθαν ελεύθεροι να προσεγγίζουν τη θάλασσα.
Εκεί μέσα «έσερναν» τις βάρκες για να ξεχειμωνιάζουν ή να προστατεύονται από την κακοκαιρία (σύρω>σύρματα). Στον πάνω όροφο υπήρχε συνήθως το κατάλυμα του βαρκάρη, για να μην αναγκάζεται να ανηφορίζει στον ορεινό τόπο διαμονής του και να επιστρέφει κάθε βράδυ για το ψάρεμα.
Σήμερα το Κλήμα είναι παραδοσιακό ψαροχώρι με ελάχιστους κατοίκους και πολύχρωμα σύρματα στις φυσικές κοιλότητες των βράχων. Τα περισσότερα από αυτά τα σύρματα ενοικιάζονται και σας περιμένουν να φωτογραφηθείτε περιτριγυρισμένοι από τα παιχνιδιάρικα χρώματα των πορτοπαραθύρων τους και τις πανέμορφες φιλικές γάτες που ξαπλώνουν νωχελικά στον ήλιο.

Η κρύπτη
Η κρύπτη είναι ένα κουτάκι φιλμ με το logbook και την δήλωση του geocaching. Δεν έχει στυλό.
ΠΡΟΣΟΧΗ !!! όταν περπατάτε κατά μήκος της παραλίας σε κάποια σημεία γλιστράει πάρα πολύ.
